Photographer of the Week: Larry Sultan

Larry Sultan is a master of composition. The way he frames to create just the right amount of space between the characters and subjects is phenomenal. Less obvious is his lighting, which is unobtrusive but wholly effective. Everything looks perfect, even as you notice that the situation itself is strange.

Photographer of the Week: Sebastian Faena

The editors of V wanted to shoot a story based on the campy 1978 Faye Dunaway film ‘The Eyes of Laura Mars’ and hired Sebastian Faena to do it. The 27-year-old Argentinian did a wonderful job, creating a really insane series of pictures, each one conveying a tremendous amount of very specific feeling. This is what still images can do in fashion, a lot more than girls just sitting pretty. Of course, it’d be cool if these ideas were original or not just based on a trashy movie fashionistas love, but it’s cool. I’ll take what I can get. Check out the full series on the V magazine site. The real nightmare is our collective history

I don’t have any idea who took this photograph. It looks to be from WWI. I know that the fright I feel when I look at this photograph is directly related to the terrible things humanity constantly justifies doing.
